Northants County’s Karen Lobb was crowned Ladies County Champion for the first time after defeating Carol Gibbs 3&2 in the final at Northampton GC.
After reaching the semi-finals of the English Ladies Seniors Championships last month, the in-form player carded two solid rounds of 80 in difficult conditions to qualify for the knockout stages in fourth.
Lobb beat home club member Sue Irvine 3&1 in the quarter-finals, before edging out top seed and fellow County member Charlotte Taylor on the 17th hole in the last four.
Despite facing six-time champion Gibbs in the showpiece match, Lobb took a stranglehold on the final when she won the 13th and 14th holes to move four clear.
Gibbs was not finished as the Wellingborough member eagled the 15th before holing a 15-footer for birdie at the next. But Lobb wasn’t to be denied as she sank her birdie putt from similar distance to seal the victory.
Jenny Baughan picked up the Silver Salver on her home track as she defeated Mary MacLaren (Wellingborough) in the final.
