An improvement plan put in place by a Northampton primary school after it was put into special measures, is “not fit for purpose”, Ofsted inspectors have said.
Green Oaks Primary School, in Kingsthorpe, was rated “inadequate” following an inspection in January and since then the school leadership team and governors have taken action to try to improve the school.
But a report of a follow-up Ofsted inspection, carried out on May 1, stated the school improvement plan was “not useful enough” and “not fit for purpose”.
The report stated: “It is unclear what school leaders and governors consider to be the most important actions that need to be taken so the school no longer requires special measures.”
“School leaders have not got the balance right between holding teachers to account and then offering the appropriate training.
“Leaders understand the individual strengths and weaknesses of teachers through regular checks on lessons, but do not offer tailored training to address individual areas for development.”
The Ofsted report also criticised Northamptonshire County Council for not carrying out an external review of governance, which was recommended by inspectors following the visit to the school in January.
The report stated that the local authority’s statement of action to improve was also “not fit for purpose”.
