A man from Northamptonshire has been bailed by police investigating an alleged threat of violence made on Facebook against a former leader of the Respect party.
West Midlands Police arrested a 37-year-old man from the Corby area of Northamptonshire on Saturday after a complaint made by former Birmingham city councillor Salma Yaqoob (pictured).
A police spokesman said the arrested man, who was held on suspicion of making malicious communications, has been released on police bail pending further inquiries
Ms Yaqoob posted a screenshot of the alleged threat on her Twitter page last week following her appearance on the BBC’s Question Time programme.
The politician served as a Respect councillor on Birmingham City Council from 2006 to 2011 and came second in the Birmingham Hall Green constituency at the 2010 General Election with more than 12,000 votes.
