An MP is sending letters to 1,000 people explaining why they should object to the closure of a respite centre for chronically ill adults in Northampton.

Michael Ellis, MP for Northampton North, said that an NHS consultation document about Favell House in Spinney Hill asks leading questions about the building’s future.

He said: “Favell House is a valuable resource for disabled adults across the county.

“I believe its closure would be a great loss to the town as well as patients and staff.

“I’m unimpressed with the consultation as I believe a lot of people will answer the question in a way that would result in the closure of the service. It is worded in a way that discourages people from keeping the status quo and asks people to vote against a local option.

“I think Favell House serves the wider community and would encourage people to take part and vote for the status quo.

“The consultation question seems designed to get a particular response.”

A public meeting will be taking place to explain the consultation in detail; the reason this review is taking place and the proposed changes. We would like to welcome you to this meeting which will be taking place on Monday, June 17 between 5pm and 6.30pm at Francis Crick House, Moulton Park. Places are on a first come first serve basis and can be booked on 651744.

Documents for the consultation, which closes on July 4 can be found at: www.neneccg.nhs.uk/current-consultations
