An opening date has been announced for Northampton’s new Errol Flynn Filmhouse cinema.
The cinema, built adjacent to Royal & Derngate, will have its first public screenings on Friday, June 21, when it will show Summer In February. Tickets go on sale at midday today.
The filmhouse is named the Hollywood legend who spent his early acting career with the Northampton Repertory Company, at the Royal Theatre.
The new cinema will broaden the range of films available in the town, showing not just the best of the mainstream, but also a selection of world, British and independent movies including arthouse, foreign language and documentary films.
Summer In February is based on the true story of the love triangle in an artists’ colony in Cornwall.
It will be screened at various times from Friday, June 21, to Thursday, June 27.
Other films being screen in the first week include the thriller The Place Beyond The Pines, starring Ryan Gosling as an ex-stunt motorcyclist who turns to crime to provide for his lover and child, and French language film Therese Desqueyroux, starring Audrey Tatou.
Other films being shown in the first month include The Great Gatsby, Behind The Candelabra and documentaries including The Stone Roses: Made Of Stone, Springsteen And I, and Benjamin Britten: Peace And Conflict.
Screenings of classic films include the digital re-release of 1963 Hollywood blockbuster Cleopatra and Northampton’s own cult classic Kinky Boots.
There will also be screenings of live and recorded stage performances starting with Manchester International Festival’s production of Macbeth and the Academy Award-wining National Theatre production of The Audience starring Helen Mirren as the Queen.
The 90-seat cinema will feature state of the art sound and digital film projection and leather seating with side tables, continental beers and wine and snacks
Tickets will cost £7.50 for adults or £6.50 for concessions with peak performances costing £8.50 and £7.50 respectively.
There will also be concessions for children and silver screen matinees for £5.
Parent and baby screenings will cost £6.50 and tickets for premium screenings of live and recorded stage productions will cost £14 for adults, £12 for concessions and £10 for children.
