Brampton Heath’s Jack Brown added the County Men’s Strokeplay Championship to his growing list of honours as he clinched the title by one stroke at Northants County.

On a difficult day for scoring, the 18-year-old carded rounds of 75 and 72 to become the first person since 2004 to hold the men’s and boy’s titles at the same time.

Home club member Neil Connolly, who won the crown the last time it was held at County in 2009, was Brown’s closest contender as he finished in the runners-up position with scores of 75 and 73.

After finishing third on 151, Dan Ashcroft collected the Parsons Cup for the leading net score as well as picking up the team prize in partnership with Connolly and Thomas Duck.

English Pro Tour

Cold Ashby’s John Chamberlain withstood gusty Cornwall winds to secure his
biggest victory of the season as he came out on top by five shots in the English Tour event at St. Mellion International.

Chamberlain carded an opening 75 to sit four off the pace, before storming through the field in the final round with three consecutive birdies on the front nine in a level par 72.

The 25-year-old, who finished just one off the pace whilst collecting the runners-up prize at Moortown the previous week, said: “To get a five-shot victory was great.”

St Andrews Links Trophy

Northamptonshire’s Ryan Evans produced a brilliant display on his debut at the home of golf as he finished joint-second in the prestigious St Andrews Links Trophy.

Evans smashed seven birdies in an opening 66 on the Jubilee Course, before staying at the top of the leaderboard with a one-over-par 73 on the Old Course.

With both the final two rounds taking place on the Old Course, the plus-four handicapper carded rounds of 72 and 73 to miss out on the title by just two shots.
