Northamptonshire County Council will formalise its support to the armed forces by signing the Armed Forces Community Covenant today.
The aim of the Community Covenant is to encourage local communities to support the Armed Forces community in their area as well as to promote public understanding and awareness of issues affecting the Armed Forces personnel.
The Community Covenant also aims to recognise and remember the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces community and encourage activities which help to integrate Armed Forces personnel into the community and civilian life.
Leader of Northamptonshire County Council, Councillor Jim Harker OBE said: “I am very pleased that Northamptonshire County Council will be signing this document and strengthening our commitment to Armed Forces personnel and veterans.
“In doing so, we are agreeing to work with our partners to recognise the significant contribution made by members of the Armed Forces and to provide advice and support that enables Armed Forces personnel in Northamptonshire to improve their quality of life, as well as that of their families.
“I was pleased to sign as a partner in the Northampton Borough Council covenant recently, and now we endorse our commitment as the county council, county-wide.”
The council will be working with partners to develop an action plan to address issues identified for the Armed Forces community in Northamptonshire.
This will address issues such as housing, health and wellbeing, employment, skills and education.
