Cobblers have announced they will play a friendly against local rivals Peterborough United this summer.
The game will be played on Saturday, July 20 at Sixfields with a kick-off time of 3pm.
Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony wrote on Twitter early on Monday: “Some good news, looks like game against Northampton all set for 20th July at their place. A good pre season friendly with an edge!!”
MacAnthony initially floated the idea on the social networking site on Saturday, confirming he had already held preliminary talks with Town chairman David Cardoza.
The clash has now been confirmed and will add to Cobblers’ pre-season schedule which sees them play two United Counties League teams, Sileby Rangers and Cogenhoe United, and Championship side Leicester City.
The club are also contemplating the prospect of a training camp abroad, with Croatia (where the team trained last summer) understood to be the preferred destination.
