Kyle Coetzer’s unbeaten century steered the Steelbacks to a comprehensive defeat of Worcestershire.

The Scotsman eased to an unbeaten 105 off only 110 balls as the visitors were condemned to a seven-wicket loss and he was pleased with the side’s fifth consecutive victory in the Yorkshire Bank 40.

He said: “We’ve played some really good cricket in the one-day form this season and it’s continuing.

“We (with Alex Wakely) decided to put them under pressure, not necessarily by hitting the ball in the air but by hitting the ball hard and through the field and fortunately we got a few through and the pressure eased off.

“It’s nice to bat through the innings and finish not out but more importantly we finished the game off.”

The result continued the club’s remarkable transformation from a side who could barely win a game last season to one who are challenging for a place in the knockout stages.

And Coetzer believes that sticking to a gameplan is paying off.

He added: “We’ve just been focused on our plans in one-day cricket and we’ve been sticking to those plans.

“Alex (Wakely) getting a hundred earlier in the year and guys putting up big bowling performances have helped us to restrcit sides.”

The victory moves the Steelbacks above Kent into second spot in Group A, three points behind the leaders Nottinghamshire.

The Outlaws provide the opposition when the competition resumes in August in a clash that Coetzer knows could be crucial.

“If we can get a result in our favour against them that would really open up the group so it’s a vital game,” he said.
