A man has been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences following an incident in Northampton which saw armed police called to the scene.
Armed officers and police dogs swooped on the property in Ardington Road, close to Abington Park, at about 10am today.
As a result, roads surrounding the area were sealed off and people living nearby were told to stay in their homes.
A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “We carried out a drugs warrant in Ardington Road, Northampton. As a result, parts of Wellingborough Road, Ardington Road and the surrounding area were closed as a safety precaution.
“One man has been arrested in Park Avenue South on suspicion of drugs offences.
“Firearms officers were at the scene as an additional safety precaution, but we would like to offer reassurance that there was no threat to the wider general public.”
People who lived close to the scene said they only became aware of the incident when they spotted the large police presence out of their windows.
One neighbour said: “We were just told by the police to stay inside for our own safety.
“It’s very scary when you see something like this happening so close to your house.”
