A burglar who stole an iPod belonging to the dead sister of the grieving victim could be behind a spate of calls by bogus traders, according to police.

Northamptonshire Police this week appealed for witnesses following burglary at a home in Homestead Way, Northampton, some time between 1pm and 5pm on Wednesday, June 26.

The burglar broke into the house through a back window and once inside stole the iPod.

Detectives say the device, which was an old model, was of “particular sentimental value” to the victim as it belonged to his sister, who died recently.

Officers are investigating a number of similar offences in the area around The Racecourse, which they believe may be linked to a recent spate of calls by bogus traders.

PC Alison Key said: “We are appealing for information from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area over the past couple of weeks, in particular last Wednesday afternoon.

“While the monetary value of the item stolen from Homestead Way is small, its sentimental value was huge and its theft has caused a great deal of heartache to the victim.”
