Northampton schoolboy Callum Field is off on the journey of a lifetime this week as he travels to Los Angeles in America to represent Great Britain... at roller hockey

Field has been selected to play for his country in the Junior Olympics & World Championships, and will be taking on nations such as USA, Canada and Russia.

It’s an exciting time for Field, who started playing ice hockey for MK Storm at the age of just six, when he represented their under-10s team. By the age of eight, he was playing for the Under-12s.

The eight-year-old went along to trials for the GB roller hockey team, and was one of the 12 selected for this month’s tournament.

Callum’s dad Steve, said: “Callum has been training hard for the past six months in preparation for this event, and he has been labelled as the best player ever seen for his age in the country.

“ I, Callum’s mum Serena and his sister Bethany are really proud of what he has achieved over the last two years.

“But the fact is, he is so dedicated and trains or plays hockey five days out of seven each week and we feel this is nothing more than he deserves.”

An excited Callum said: “I’m really looking forward to representing my country.

“It’s a dream come true and I just hope I can make everybody proud of me, and more importantly put in my best performance and bring back a medal.”
