The Academy nightclub in Northampton has had its licence suspended after a 20-year-old man had his face slashed with a knife in the street outside the premises at the weekend.
Northamptonshire Police requested a review of the College Street club’s licence after the incident on Sunday, June 30, and it was suspended at a hearing on Wednesday.
A full review will take place at the end of the month, on a date to be confirmed.
The victim required stitches to the facial wound following the attack, which happened between 1.45am and 2.15am.
Sergeant Mark Worthington said: “We can, and do, use all the powers we have to reduce violence and make Northampton a safe place to enjoy a night out. This assault was particularly serious which is why we applied for the expedited review and measures can now be put in place to prevent future issues.”
Detective Constable Gareth Askew added: “The assault happened outside the club at around 2am. There was a large number of people in the area at the time and we’re keen to speak with anyone that witnessed it.”
The 20-year-old victim is described as a 6ft man, black, of slim build and wearing a grey hooded top, black jeans and black trainers.
One of the offenders is described as a black man in his twenties, about 6ft 2in, of muscular build with dreadlocked hair in a pony tail with a white cloth wrapped around it. He was wearing skinny jeans and white trainers.
The other offender is described as a black man in his twenties, about 6ft 2in, of muscular build with short black cropped hair. He was wearing a grey loose-fitting top.
