Police are to launch a combined high visible and undercover operation in Silverstone this weekend for this year’s Moto GP event.
Northamptonshire Police is to end a busy week, which saw The Queen visit the county and England play their first matches at the Euro 2012 tournament, by staging a large-scale policing operation for the popular event.
There will be a high-profile police presence at the event, with both uniformed Police Community Support Officers and a plain-clothes crime team patrolling round the clock.
The planning has centred on ensuring that visitors have a safe and stay in the county, while minimising the disruption to local residents.
Event Commander, Superintendent Sean Bell, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming so many visitors to the county and ensuring they have a safe and enjoyable time with us.
“We have hosted the Moto GP for a number of years now and it has established itself as a fun event with few incidents to deal with and I hope that continues this year.
“We work hard to maintain the trust and confidence of our communities and it is especially important when policing an event such as this that we do not forget the concerns of our local residents.
“Anybody with any concerns during or after the event should contact us by email, the switchboard, or via their local Safer Community Team.
“Sadly, where you have any large gathering, there will be a minority of people intent on committing crime.
“To combat this we have a dedicated plain-clothes operation to detect and prevent serious acquisitive crime, particularly around vehicles and motor cycles.
“I would urge visitors, especially those camping, to heed the crime prevention advice that we give and to make sure they keep their wits about them and know the whereabouts of their valuables at all times.
”If you spot any suspicious activity, ring us or alert a police officer or steward straight away.”
