Visitors indulged their senses and curiosity today as villagers in Yardley Hastings opened their gardens to the public for charity.

The Open Gardens event, which runs until 5.30pm today, raises money for the upkeep of St Andrew’s Church.

Proud owners were on hand to talk over their labours of love.

One of largest is The Old Rectory, inspired by the William and Mary-restored Het Loo in Holland, with all nine acres looked after by professional gardener Bryan Hedges.

Mr Hedges said: “People have a look as they walk past with their dog and, it being private, probably wonder what I’m doing and what it looks like.

“This event gives them a chance to see beyond the gate.”

Organiser Lucy Williamson said: “I think it is a lot to do with people being a little bit nosy but they also want tips.

“Curiosity and advice is what attracts people and it’s in such a good cause.”
