Every day this month the Chron will be teaming up with the Northampton Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID) to feature a ‘Business of the Day’ – giving you more information about an independent firm in the town.

Today, we highlight Blenders in St Giles Street.

There are few finer smells in the world than fresh coffee, and if aromas are anything to go by then Blenders has to be regarded as one of the best shops in Northampton.

The whiff of freshly-ground beans that hits you when you open the door is enough to take your breath away, transporting you to a beautiful café in a cobbled square in Italy.

Roasted on the premises, their collection of 24 coffees, eight flavoured coffees and 40 specialist teas puts supermarkets to shame, offering something to suit even the most demanding of tastes.

The secret to owner Tony Egan’s success is, according to his staff, a personal, friendly service.

One employee said: “We are a lot friendlier than some of the bigger shops, we see so many people and you get to know them as friends. Once they’ve been in once we can’t keep them away.

“We are seeing a lot more younger people coming in to buy coffee now. It used to more of an older crowd but it’s noticeably younger these days.”

The shop is coming up to its 25th anniversary, making it a St Giles Street staple and everyone nearby knows when there’s a fresh batch being ground as the smell wafts down the road, drawing people through the door.
