Cameron White thinks that evenly poised is the best way to describe the state of play after the first day of the County Championship encounter with Lancashire.

Northamptonshire ended on 275-7 after an attritional day’s play with White, who is making a one-off four-day appearance, unbeaten on 61.

The hosts had to recover from 157-5 and 211-7 after the visitors hit back in the afternoon session and White thinks they are in decent shape.

He said: “I’m not sure what a par score is really but I think that what we’ve got is reasonable.

“It’s hard to tell and we’ll have to wait an see until we’ve had a bowl.

“I thought they bowled really well all day, especially their captain (Glen Chapple) who bowled fantastically even right there at the end and it was a good, hard fought day.

“It was a bit of a grind from both sides I guess, just jostling for position and the game’s evenly poised.”

As for his own contribution, the Australian siad that he’d been pleased with how he’s been playing since arriving in the country a fortnight ago.

He added: “I feel like I’ve been batting pretty well since I got here and have got three starts in the white ball games without going on.

“Hopefully I can turn this into a big score and then go on into the rest of the Twenty20 competition.”
