Harry Woan (Overstone) and Matt Myers (Northants County) put in strong performances in the Midland Boys Championships as they finished fifth and sixth respectively at Birstall GC.
Woan gave himself a good chance of winning the title after bagging four birdies in an opening round of 68 to sit two strokes clear at the half way point.
Despite carding three birdies in an afternoon round of 73, the 18-year-old finished three adrift of Ben Robinson and Billy Spooner, who triumphed on the second play-off hole. Myers carded scores of 74 and 68.
Whittlebury
Dave Cunningham combined with Brian Dipple to clinch the Reg Hodgkins Memorial Grand Prix Cup as the pair came in with a score of net 62.2.
Richard Salter and Tim Starmer (63) were runners-up on countback from Brian Aitken and Andrea Aitken, with Ken Butler and Michael Robertson in fourth on the same mark.
Diana Willis was successful in the Ladies July Senior Stableford earlier in the week after shooting 36 points.
Cold Ashby
Two points was the margin of victory for the Handicap League side in the Team Championships as the club said thank you to all the players who have represented Cold Ashby this year.
Paul White, who birdied both par threes on the back nine, shot the best individual total of 40 points to help the eight-man Intermediate team grab second on countback from the Scratch outfit with 267 points.
Adam Smith (net 65) carded three birdies in a two-over-par gross round to lift the Rose Bowl by a single stroke from Matthew Smith, Selwyn Lloyd, Stephen Bull and Jim Burberry.
Overstone Park
Birdies on the fifth and 16th holes in a one-under-par gross round lifted Steve Warren two shots clear of the field in the July Medal.
Gary Fletcher (67) was runner-up in the top category, while Andrew Batty and Peter Steeler picked up the two prizes in the second division with the same net score.
After a blistering start of five pars and two bogeys in the opening seven holes in the Ladies Medal, Lyn French held her nerve on the back nine to squeeze one in front of Gina Evans with a net 68.
Northampton
Adrian Nice saw his handicap cut from 28 to 24 after shooting a magnificent round of net 62 in the third round of the Northampton Cup.
Kevin Nichols (64) led the Division Two by four strokes, while Sam Abraham (66) clinched the top category on countback from David Haggan.
Northants County
Ben Smith compiled the best net round of 67 in the July Midweek Medal as he finished one shot ahead of Tom Bullough, who carded the leading score, and Frank Mallon.
The second division went to past captain Peter Thompson (69) by a single shot from John Duggan. Jeff Winfield lifted the Coker Cup with a net 70.
Collingtree
James Bates served notice of his potential after grabbing a superb total of 42 points in the Cadets Competition of the Junior June Colonial. Conor Rosling took the main prize.
At the opposite end of the age spectrum, a very consistent scorecard from Tony Langley (net 71) won the Seniors July Medal by seven shots from John Hovland.
Staverton
Birdies on the fifth and 16th holes helped Lawrie Worbey (net 67) win the Vets July Medal by a couple of shots from Ramon Caira, with Ray Rumble a further stroke back in third.
Twenty three points was the leading mark in the 12th week of the Tuesday Night Stableford as Paul Johnson took the plaudits.
Mick Forgione birdied the second, third and fifth holes to take the first division on countback from Darren Barrett with 21 points.
Cherwell Edge
Graham Collett was successful in the Scratch Divisional Cup as the six-handicapper’s gross round of 72 lifted him one ahead of Kevin Cole and Ian Bowyer.
Jason Hughes (82) won the second category by two from David Brooker, while Glen Jones (86) clinched the high-handicap section. The Ladies Scratch and Rabbits Cup went to Sally Crompton (36 points).
Brampton Heath
Sue Mead came from three shots off the pace after the opening round to win the Ladies Club Championships by two strokes from Helen Milner with a gross score of 192.
Dale Ferguson lifted the Kelly and Sewell Shield after carding the best round of net 69 in the fourth Order of Merit comp. Mark Halliday (70) was runner-up by one from Simon Oliver, Gary Ray and Phil Farrell.
Farthingstone
A birdie on the third and 10 pars in the remaining 15 holes helped Bob Ross top the standings in the Captains Day.
The 12-handicapper bagged 39 points to finish two ahead of Richard Marsh, with Chris Franklin in third on 36.
Silverstone
Skipper Les Bone and professional Rodney Holt made a successful start to their Captain-Pro Challenge as they beat Chris James and Phil Carter on the 18th hole in the first of 10 matches this summer.
Kingsthorpe
Leslie Jaeger was the stand out performer in the Ladies July Medal as the high-handicapper finished eight strokes clear of Shirley Urquhart and Jacqueline Rolfe with a net 70.
Hellidon Lakes
Andy McKeown’s net 66 was the leading score in the June Medal as birdies on the sixth and 17th holes pushed him one ahead of in-form Paul Craig and David Reeves.
Delapre
Elizabeth Crow chose the correct partner for the Ladies Ping Fourball Betterball Comp as she bagged a winning tally of 40 points alongside in-form Anne Wright.
Solheim Cup
Charley Hull has set her targets on qualifying for the European Solheim Cup team after impressing during a training session on the host course at Colorado GC in the US.
The Kettering teenager, who has made a stunning start to her rookie year on the Ladies European Tour as she sits third on the Order of Merit, was invited to the session by team captain Lotta Neumann.
Hull arrived on Saturday, played a practice round the following day before joining up with eight of her potential team-mates for 18 holes on Monday.
With European vice-captain and 10-time major winner Annika Sorenstam also in attendance, the 17-year-old played two more sets of nine holes on the next day before flying home.
MPGA Glazerite Trophy
Top county pro Simon Lilly had a double celebration on his home track at Wellingborough last week after equalling the course record on his way to victory in the MPGA Glazerite Trophy.
The 36-year-old bagged eight birdies and no bogeys in a brilliant 64 to earn a three-stroke lead at the halfway stage of the second midland major of the year, before compiling another blemish-free round of 70.
Lilly, who beat Dan Greenwood (Forest Pines) and John-Paul Banbury (Moor Hall) by four, came into the event in good touch after finishing 12th in Local Final Qualifying for the Open Championships at North Berwick GC.
Chasing a top three spot to qualify for the event at Muirfield later this month, he carded three birdies and three bogeys in an opening 71 before bagging four birdies in another 71 to miss out by five shots.
Fellow county pro Dan Wood’s hopes also ended at the final stage as the Brampton Heath man finished 49th at Dunbar after shooting rounds of 74 and 70.
