Overgrown grass at a ‘danger spot’ on a busy Northampton road has been cut back after residents voiced concerns to the Chronicle & Echo.
Several residents contacted us about a grass verge in Lumbertubs Way which had become overgrown and was causing problems for drivers.
The verge, at the junction of Lumbertubs Way into Holmecross Road in Thorplands, was covered with overgrown grass, which made it difficult for drivers who were turning right to see if there was oncoming traffic.
One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “This is a regular occurrence now every year. It’s a danger spot. If you are turning right, you just have to hope nothing is coming.”
“The speed limit on the road is 50mph. If there is a collision there, the results are very likely to be fatal.”
Councillor Mike Hallam, Northampton Borough Council’s cabinet member for environment, said: “We are working with our contractor and Northamptonshire County Council’s highways team to make sure all grass verges are being maintained and cut.
“Enterprise’s grass cutters and litter pickers are out and about today working on a number of grass verges, and will be making their way across the town to ensure any junction where they feel there could be a safety issue will be dealt with as a priority before it becomes too overgrown.”
