Every day this month the Chron is teaming up with the Northampton Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID) to feature a ‘Business of the Day’ – giving you more information about an independent firm in the town.

Today, we highlight The Royal Bengal in Bridge Street

The Royal Bengal is the longest established Indian restaurant in Northampton and has a longstanding reputation for serving exceptional cuisine.

The family-run restaurant first opened in 1975 opposite its current location, and has has stood the test of time by catering for customers and their families ever since, adapting to 38 years of change, yet always welcoming new customers to try its traditional Indian food.

Founder Abdul Rohim continues as the executive chef at the Royal Bengal, while running the business alongside his son Mohammed Ahmin.

Mr Ahmin said: “In Northamptonshire, our strategy has been to move with the times, while at the same time keeping to what we know. At the Royal Bengal we have a traditional menu and surroundings and that has worked successfully for 37 years.”

The chef’s recommendations include the beautiful Butter Chicken as well as several regional specialities such as the Royal Bengal’s best selling dish - Hyderabadi Murgh Ghazala - a traditional south Indian delicacy featuring chicken, cooked in garlic, coriander and chillies with cumin and curry leaves.

The air-conditioned restaurant is classically decorated with painted panels on every wall instilling the spirit of Bengal and regularly hosts Bollywood-themed evenings and charity nights, with almost £15,000 being raised for good causes in the last three years alone.

A Bollywood fundraiser in aid of Christ Church Roof Fund will be held at the Royal Bengal on September 19. Tickets will be charged at £15 for a four course meal, half the proceeds from ticket sales will go to the charity, which needs to raise £66,000 to fund the roof repairs.

SPECIAL OFFER: Quote discount code ‘CHRONBENGAL’ to get 10 per cent off selected dishes this weekend.
