The Alive at Delapre concerts will return next summer, Northampton Borough Council has confirmed, as it emerged 14,000 people enjoyed the three nights of music at the weekend.

Fans flocked to Delapre Abbey on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, to watch rock legend Paul Weller, pop sensations The Wanted and Lawson and then James Morrison perform.

The borough council today confirmed the concert series will run again next year, on July 18, 19 and 20.

Councillor David Mackintosh, leader of the council said: “I think we really put Northampton on the map this weekend as a venue for world class entertainment and people have been contacting us all day to tell us how much they enjoyed themselves, which is a great feeling.

“This was our first time putting on such a major event but the feedback we have had has been amazing, not just about the bands and the venue but many people have said that it gave them such a positive impression of Northampton and they will come back again to spend more time here.

“We’ve also raised the profile of Delapre Abbey as a venue and promoting what Northampton has got to offer on a wider stage is something we all want to do.”

The first act for 2014 is set to be revealed “this autumn”.

Councillor Brandon Eldred also thanked local people for their tolerance during the week of setting up and over the weekend of the event.

He said: “We tried to cause as little inconvenience as possible to the local community but this was our first year and I hope we will learn from what we did and do it even better in 2014.

“Despite our best efforts there will inevitably have been some disruption for local people, however minor, and I would like to thank them for their patience and tolerance throughout the week.”
