Boothroyd confident in-form striker O’Donovan will keep getting better

Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd is confident that striker Roy O’Donovan will improve with every game he plays for the club.

O’Donovan has scored in Town’s past two games and would have had a 100 per cent goalscoring start to the campaign had he not hit the crossbar at York City on the opening day.

It is a good start to the season for the Irishman, who will look to build on it at Southend United this weekend, where he scored for the first time in Northampton colours last term.

And Boothroyd is confident the complementary qualities of new arrival Jacob Blyth and the fit-again Clive Platt will continue to bring the best out of O’Donovan.

“I’ve always had faith in Roy and that’s why I brought him here to work with me again,” said the Cobblers boss.

“He is a goalscorer and the more games he gets the better he will be.

“He can play up front on his own but he does like having a partner with him because then he can be that pest he likes to be.

“It seems like he has struck up a good relationship with Jacob (Blyth) already and last year he had a good relationship with Clive Platt and we won a lot of games with those two up front.

“They were very difficult to play against.”
