A social media awards scheme to champion the use of Twitter and Facebook by small businesses has won the backing of Northampton South MP, Brian Binley.
The Citrus Social Media Awards have been launched by Orange Juice Communications and Zest Communications to celebrate firms across the UK who have used social media to transform their businesses.
Brian Binley, vice chairman of the business, innovation and skills select committee, said: “These awards will highlight and encourage small businesses throughout the land to use the cost-effective social networks to further their business ambition and expand their customer base.”
The awards are designed to encourage small to medium businesses and young entrepreneurs to showcase their achievements and be recognised both nationally and locally.
Orange Juice director Daniel Owens said: “We are delighted to get the support of Brian Binley and it’s encouraging to see business leaders recognising the importance of social media and the impact it can have on firms.
“These awards are a chance to recognise those who use Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and many others imaginatively and effectively to really make a difference to their bottom line.”
The awards will feature seven different categories, including ‘Post of the Year’, ‘Most Innovative Use of Social Media’ and ‘Social Media Practitioner of the Year’.
Shortlisted finalists will be invited to attend an awards evening at Kilworth House in Leicestershire on November 7.
