No play was possible on the third day of Northamptonshire’s LV= County Championship clash with Essex in Colchester.
Overnight rain continued into the morning and the conditions didn’t allow a resumption at any stage.
The County, who lead by 344 runs as things stand, will now be hard pushed to claim a victory that would go a long way to earning them promotion to the top flight, especially given that Essex are on their nearest challengers.
On day four, which has a better forecast, the home side will resume on 187-5 with Ryan ten Doeschate on 47 and James Foster 39.
Essex still need 195 runs to avoid the follow-on.
