Northamptonshire bowler Lee Daggett is to retire from professional cricket at the end of the current season.

The 30-year-old, who previously played for Warwickshire and Leicestershire, will take up a position in the medical staff at Franklin’s Gardens this winter.

He said: “After giving it a huge amount of consideration over the last couple of months I have decided to retire at the end of the season to take up an offer of employment from Northampton Saints Rugby Club.

“Some of you may know that I have been a physiotherapist for over a year now and spent some time working with Northampton Saints last winter, in which time they decided to offer me a full-time position amongst their medical team.

“I have not taken this decision lightly and with all things considered I have decided it is time to move on to the next step of my career as a physio.

“I would like to thank everybody at Northants Cricket for all of your support over my 5 years at the club.

“On a personal level my career only began to progress once I joined the club and it is no surprise to me that the club is now getting the success that it richly deserves.

“I hope to maintain my links with all at the club over the coming years.”

Daggett has taken 165 wickets in first-class cricket, including best bowling figures of 8-94 against Durham for Durham MCCU.
