A teenager has been arrested following a suspected bomb hoax in Daventry where a suitcase left outside a town centre shop led to an RAF bomb squad being called out.

Police are appealing for information about the incident, which happened in Daventry town centre during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Detectives say a suitcase was left in the doorway of the It’s A Gift shop and the alarm was raised shortly after midnight.

The case appeared to be wired, police have said, and was subsequently made safe by an RAF bomb disposal team.

The case contained no explosives.

A police spokesman said: “A 19-year-old Daventry man has been arrested and released on police bail pending further enquiries in relation to this incident.

“We would like to hear from any witnesses - in the High Street on Friday night or in the early hours of Saturday morning - who may have spotted any suspicious activity or vehicles or noticed anyone placing this suitcase in the shop doorway.”
