The Cobblers have signed former Sheffield United midfielder Matty Harriott until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old, who trained with the Cobblers in pre-season, will go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s Sky Bet League Two match at Bristol Rovers.
Harriott started his career with his hometown club Luton Town, before signing for the Blades. He made four appearances for the south Yorks side.
Harriott has also enjoyed loan spells with Burton Albion and Alfreton.
Town boss Aidy Boothroyd said: “Matty will increase the competition in central midfield.
“He is strong, he can be physical and he has a good engine. He can play as well and he is really hungry and desperate to be given a chance.
“He did well for us in pre-season and I think he will be a good addition.”
Harriott has been allocated squad number 26.
