Kettering Town’s Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division home game with Bideford tomorrow has been postponed.

It is the second successive match that the crisis-stricken Poppies have had called off after player unavailability resulted in the clash at Leamington on Tuesday also being pulled.

The news comes with Kettering fighting for their existence and the Southern League have also confirmed the club have been given until 4pm on Monday to show that they can stage Tuesday’s Red Insure Cup home tie with Arlesey Town.

The Southern League said in a short statement that tomorrow’s game at Nene Park is off because there will be no electricity at the ground after it was cut off earlier this week due to unpaid bills.

It is understood that at least one consortium is continuing talks with majority shareholder Imraan Ladak over a potential takeover but it is also believed that will be based on the Nene Park stadium also being sold to them.

However, news is now emerging of another group coming forward for talks as well.

And it is also understood that a final decision on such a takeover will be made during next week.

Should it not happen, the Poppies are likely to face liquidation with bills rumoured to be stacking up while the playing squad are also yet to receive this month’s wages with some of them still owed for last month as well.

Ladak had previously said that the club were “planning to resolve” the £3,000 owed on the Company Voluntary Arrangement it entered during the summer.

Caretaker-manager Alan Doyle has confirmed he was down to “five or six” players for tomorrow’s game, due to a registration embargo placed on the club by the Southern League.

It is understood Warren Byerley’s 14-day notice on his contract runs out today while Pacome Gele has now returned to France.

However, Doyle has confirmed he has spoken to Ladak and it now seems there is still hope of a takeover of the club being completed

“It’s very much in the lap of the Gods,” Doyle said.

“I know there are a lot of people who believe the club should be put out its misery but once that happens, there is no way back at all.

“It seems to me to be a bit more optimistic. There are real people who want to come in and help the club.

“I believe that this time next week we will know what the situation is. And in the meantime, we have a bit of time to sort the issues over players and the electricity sorted out.

“I am just doing what I can to keep the club going and I won’t stop until someone tells me to.”
