Cobblers striker Platt targeting more success at Rovers

The Memorial Stadium has proved a happy hunting ground over the years for Northampton Town front man Clive Platt.

And the big striker is hoping the trend continues when the Cobblers take on Bristol Rovers there tomorrow afternoon (ko 3pm).

Platt is now fully fit and raring to go after shaking off his long-term calf problem, and he is in contention for a start against the Gas as the Cobblers aim to kick-start their season after three defeats in their opening four games.

“It is a ground I like playing at, and over the years I have done well at Bristol,” said Platt, who is likely to start in the bench.

“So hopefully I can do well this weekend, and the team can do well.

“At the moment, the most important thing is getting some consistency of performance in the team.

“I am sure if we can do that we will start flying up this league.”

Platt is hoping his calf problem is something firmly in the past, but he admits he won’t be certain if he is full match-fit until he starts a game again.

“I don’t know if I am ready for 90 minutes, because you only find out once you start playing,” said Platt.

“I have done a lot more training now, and I am building my fitness up and doing as much as I can.

“It has been hard in pre-season as I was trying to emulate what the players were doing, but because I was injured I was having to do it differently, on the rower, swimming, on the treadmill or on the bike.

“You can go flat out on these things, but as soon as you stop running around and kicking the ball and wrestling against players, it is a totally different type of fitness.

“But I have been training for two or three weeks, I got a good 70 minutes in a reserve team game last week, so I am getting there.”
