Jon Brady has urged his Brackley side to get back to being ‘strong and organised’ - after last weekend’s FA Cup shock at Arlesey Town.
The Saints, currently top of the Blue Square Bet North thanks to nine wins from 10 games, were 3-0 down inside nine minutes at the Armadillo Stadium last Saturday.
Southern League Premier Division Arlesey Town eventually won out 4-3, despite a late Brackley fightback, dumping Brady’s boys out at the third qualifying round stage.
In was an anomalie in the Saints’ season and they head to Harrogate Town this weekend looking to show their true colours.
“Harrogate will be very tough, especially at their place, so we’ve got to get back to being strong and organised,” said Brady.
“The lads had been consistent and they’ve only let themselves down for 25 minutes in 11 games.”
On the subject of last weekend’s defeat at Arlesey, Brady said: “We showed great character to come back, but you can’t start a game 3-0 down.”
Meanwhile, Brady has also called on the non-League powers-that-be to vet prospective football club owners more stringently.
Brady’s remarks come in the wake of the crisis at a club he used to play for, Kettering Town, who look to be on the verge of extinction.
The Saints manager took his side to Leamington in midweek for a friendly after the Poppies were unable to fulfil their Southern League fixture due to a lack of players.
“The Football Conference should vet anyone wanting to take over a football club,” said Brady.
“It’s astonishing people are allowed to run football clubs with no real rules of regulations.”
CORBY TOWN
Steelmen sign new defender
Corby Town have completed the signing of former Stockport County defender Carl Piergianni.
The 20-year-old defender has arrived at Steel Park and will go straight into the squad to face Altrincham in the Blue Square Bet North on Saturday.
Piergianni, who has also had a loan spell at the Steelmen’s opponents in the past, made more than 40 appearances for Stockport in the Blue Square Bet Premier last season.
And Steelmen boss Chris Plummer was delighted to secure the centre-half’s signature, despite there being plenty of interest from other clubs.
“It is a good signing for us,” Plummer said.
“It gives us some extra strength in depth at the back and that is something we need.
“I did some homework on him and I was aware that he had become available a couple of weeks ago and we tried to bring him in then.
“He did train with us and I know there were other clubs interested in him. But it is great that he has joined us.”
