One in five parent appeals on secondary school admissions in Northamptonshire succeeded, according to official figures.
The Department for Education statistics showed 459 appeals were lodged against the county council’s placement of the 7,933 secondary school admissions in 2010-11, of which 341 actually went to a hearing. Of these, 72 (21.1 per cent) went in favour of the parents. At primary level, where 11,837 children entered the schools system, 628 appeals were lodged by parents of which 359 went to a hearing.
The figures showed 54 came down on the side of the parents, 15 per cent of the original number lodged.Academies were not included,
