Kettering Town have had a third successive match postponed.
The crisis-stricken Poppies and the Southern League have confirmed that Tuesday night’s Red Insure Cup first-round clash with Arlesey Town has been called off due to the lack of electricity at Nene Park.
And, in a new blow, goalkeeper Laurie Walker (pictured) has become the latest player to leave the club after he confirmed on social networking site twitter that he has cancelled his contract.
It is believed that talks are continuing between the club a potential investors and it has been suggested that a deal could be done by the end of this week.
With the latest postponement, the Poppies are now without a game until they are due to host a league game against St Neots Town on October 27.
The crisis at Nene Park, however, continues to rumble on with a registration embargo still being in place while the club were told to pay £3,000 owed on their Company Voluntary Arrangement by today.
The electricity was cut off last week due to unpaid bills.
And Walker has finally had enough of being what he described as “strung along” after he went through similar problems with the club last season.
The playing squad haven’t been paid their wages for this month with some also being owed money for September.
On twitter, Walker said: “Sad day have officially cancelled my contract with Kettering.
“Had no option as need to start making money and can’t be strung along any longer. Would like to thank all the fans, you have all been fantastic to me and I can’t thank you enough for how much you got behind me it means so much.
“I didn’t want to leave but had no choice.
“Thank you all for your support and hope the club sorts out soon for the fans as it’s what you all deserve. Will always love KTFC and wish them all the best.”
Poppies caretaker-manager Alan Doyle has confirmed a Kettering team will play in a friendly at Rothwell Corinthians on Thursday night.
He said; “We will have that game and the team will mostly be made up of trialists.
“The problem I have is that it is mainly going to be a case of dealing with youngsters because we simply can’t offer anything to anybody.
“I am told that the investors are interested and we will just have to see what happens.
“I am trying not to get involved in the politics and I am just trying to have things in place should we get a green light to bring players in.
“Either way it goes, it is going to be a very difficult situation when it comes to attracting players.”
The statement from the Southern League, regarding tomorrow night’s game, said: “Further to the League being advised by Kettering Town Football Club today that Nene Park will not have electricity to stage their home Red Insure cup tie against Arlesey Town Football Club on Tuesday, the League has accepted that the match is postponed.
“The matter of the playing of the match will be discussed in due course by the League’s Board of Directors.”
