The University of Northampton has secured a £50 million finance package to help refurbish campus facilities and build new town centre student flats.
Approximately £30 million, from Lloyds Bank, has been used to complete the first phase of the project, which included the full refurbishment of Simon Senlis and St John’s House halls of residence, together with the makeover of the Newton, Sulgrave, Fawsley and Cottesbrooke teaching buildings.
As part of the extensive renovation, the University also updated the existing sports hall fitness facility which now includes state-of-the-art equipment.
The remaining funding is being used to build a brand new hall of residence, which will feature an additional 475 student bedrooms, situated on a new 1.2 acre site, on St John’s Street, in Northampton town centre.
The new St John’s halls of residence is expected to generate an extra £2.9 million of spending in Northampton town on an annual basis, which is in addition to the £200 million contributed by the University to the regional economy each year.
