ONE of Northamptonshire’s MPs spoke about her battle with post-natal depression during a debate in the House of Commons.

The Conservative MP for South Northamptonshire, Andrea Leadsom, spoke during a debate on mental illness where many MPs discussed their own battles with depression.

Mrs Leadsom, who is a mother of three said: “I suffered from post-natal depression and it’s unbelievable how awful you feel when you’re sitting with your tiny baby in your arms, and your baby cries and so do you.

“You can’t even make yourself a cup of tea, you just feel so utterly useless.

“I look back on it now and... actually going through that experience makes you somehow a better person and it also makes you determined to do something for other people in that situation.”

The MP launched The Northamptonshire Parent Infant Project (NORPIP)in September last year 2011.

The charity offers intensive therapeutic counselling to parents and their babies to help them build positive relationships.
