A HOME Friends Life t20 quarter-final is the target for the Steelbacks according to captain Andrew Hall ahead of Sunday’s trip to Taunton.
After watching their opening outing fall foul of the inclement weather, Hall’s side make the journey to the south west to face one of the competition favourites with a simple target.
Hall said: “Our aim is to win as many games as we can to get a home quarter-final.
“We know how important that can be in the Twenty20 and we have to look towards getting that if we can.
“We know that we need a certain number of wins and if we can get two wins over Somerset, who are one of the top sides in the group, then that would go a long way towards that.”
The pitch at Taunton is traditionally a good one for batting and with short boundaries on all four sides, high scores are generally the order of the day.
Somerset racked up in excess of 190 in their 63-run thumping of Warwickshire on Wednesday and Hall is expecting another high-scoring affair.
He continued: “We’ve had a look at scores there last season and sides have been averaging around the 170-mark.
“It’ll be quite a good wicket and they’ve got a good, strong side who bat all the way down.
“It’ll be a very good test for us but one that we’re looking forward to.”
And the captain feels that if the good aspects of the curtailed clash with the Welsh Dragons are taken into the contest then the outcome can be the desired one.
“We hit the targets that we wanted to, Kyle (Coetzer) got us off to a good start which is what we wanted,” he added.
“We had a long chat before the game and it’s good to see what we talked about happening out in the middle.
“That’s the positive part about it, when the guys go out there, do what we’ve said, and put our team plans into operation then we will be where we want to be.”
