A businessman accused of causing serious injuries at a work Christmas party has been acquitted.
John Major, aged 53, pleaded not guilty to causing grievous bodily harm when he appeared at Northampton Crown Court in July.
It was alleged he had assaulted a colleague while at a work Christmas party, causing head injuries requiring hospital treatment, at the Hilton Hotel in Collingtree, Northampton, in December last year.
Mr Major, of Aviemore Gardens, Shelfleys, Northampton, returned to court last week for a hearing where the prosecution said it would be offering no evidence against him due to there being no realistic prospect of a successful conviction.
Judge Richard Bray directed a not guilty verdict to be entered for the single charge Mr Major had faced.
