Cogenhoe United and Long Buckby both hit the goal trail as they secured handsome victories in the Chromasport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division on Saturday.

Cogenhoe were 6-1 home winners against Corby Stewarts & Lloyds, with Karl Bates leading the way with a hat-trick,

Tom Liversedge added a double and Matt Gearing’s penalty completed the scoring. David Sheridan replied for the Foundrymen.

Long Buckby also scored six as they stretched their unbeaten run to five games with a 6-1 rout of Irchester, who ended the match with nine men.

Irchester actually took the lead through a Liam O’Neill own goal, but it was -1 at the break thanks to an effort from Nkosi Mzungwana.

The second half saw Bucks run away with it as Mike Houghton and Craig Jackson both scored twice, and Stuart Ndlovu the sixth in added time.

Elsewhere, the premier division’s last unbeaten record bit the dust as tabletoppers St Ives went down 3-1 at home to Quorn who climb to third place following their victory.

Holbeach moved up to second with a 6-1 demolition of next to bottom Harborough at Carters Park. Mitch Griffiths scored three for the Tigers, Andy Toyne two and Rob Hughes one with Ben Barton replying.

Spalding slipped two places to fourth after a 2-2 draw at Yaxley who twice led through Luke Hipwell and Matt Cook, the Tulips earning a point with goals from Luke Kennedy and debutant TJ Nightingale, the latter in added time.

On a day of high scoring Deeping topped the goal charts with a 9-0 win over Sleaford at Outgang Road. Matt Heron’s goal was all that separated the sides at the interval but Rangers ran riot after the interval with further goals from David Burton-Jones, Alex Beck, two goal Scott Ginty, substitute Ash Stevens with a hat trick and Harry Deane.

Newport Pagnell drew 1-1 at Boston Town where co-manager Ian Dunn’s last minute leveller earned the Poachers a point after John Thorpe opened the scoring for the Swans.

There was also a high scoring home win for Shepshed who trounced Huntingdon 6-2 at the Dovecote. Steve Chaplin hit a hat trick for Dynamo with scoring support from two goal Liam Fitzpatrick and an own goal by Victor Torres who also scored at the right end along with Stuart Eason.

Second half goals from Matt Cox and Adam Scotcher gave Peterborough Northern Star a 2-0 home win over AFC Kempston while Blackstones made it back to back wins with a 3-0 success at Desborough thanks to early goals from Addie Staffieri and Ben Porter and a Jason Kilbride penalty.

DIVISION ONE

Paul Pickering was on target again as Spencer secured another victory, this time by 3-0 at Burton Park Wanderers.

Also on target for the improving Millers were Ryan Dove and Matt Long.

Sileby Rangers were knocked off the top spot as Oadby enjoyed a 3-1 win at Potton.

Sileby were unable to maintain their place at the head of the table as their trip to Buckingham was postponed due to electrical problems at Manor Fields.

Eynesbury claimed a rare success at Whitworth where first half goals from Lee Bassett and Ben Cole and a second half Tom Coles double gave Rovers a 4-1 success with Cavell Jarvis replying for the Flourmen.

Rothwell Corinthians saw off hosts Olney with Ian Hay and Tom McLaren on the scoresheet. The only draw of the day came at Wootton where Grant Williams gave Blue Cross the lead only for Jason Taylor to salvage a 1-1 draw for Raunds with a late equaliser.

LEAGUE KO CUP

There were three first round ties in the League KO Cup.

Craig Harrower and Daryl Lawman gave Rushden & Higham a 2-0 home verdict against Bourne while Thrapston edged out Harrowby 1-0 at Chancery Lane, Luke Cummins the second half matchwinner.

A penalty shootout was needed to settle the meeting of ground sharers Wellingborough and AFC Rushden & Diamonds at the Dog & Duck.

Jake Newman and Ben Morgan twice gave Diamonds a first half lead either side of a Joe Rich reply. Stef Gatting’s equaliser made the match score 2-2 with the Doughboys emerging shootout victors 4-3.
