Cups full of joy for Bantams boss Parkinson following stalemate at Cobblers

Bradford City manager Phil Parkinson watched his team draw against the Cobblers and afterwards described the fact his team are still in all three cup competitions as ‘a real achievement’.

The Bantams drew 1-1 at Sixfields on Saturday in an FA Cup first-round tie that will be replayed a week on Tuesday.

Bradford are also in the third round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and will play Arsenal at Valley Parade in the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup.

Such a situation will give Parkinson’s men a fixture-packed run between now and Christmas but will also enhance that club’s financial position and that of Northampton, who will receive a share of the gate receipts when the teams meet again.

“At the start of the week I spoke to the chairman and he said to be in the hat for one of the cups would be good so to be in both is a real achievement and is great for us,” he said.

“I thought we had a lot of chances and dominated it for long periods. Northampton are a good side, they beat Port Vale last week and they upped their game in the second half.

“They scored during that period and scored a goal but I was pleased with how we performed throughout the rest of the game.

“We’ve had so many games, it’s beyond belief and we’re going to have to keep rotating the team and picking and choosing because there’s no way the same 11 can play every game.

“A lot of teams will have thought Tuesday will have taken a lot out of us, and also the fact we went 120 minutes, and so it was pleasing to play the way we did even with that.”
