A theatrical con artist who has starred in Cirque Du Soleil is to help police promote a campaign to fight thieves in Northampton.
The Christmas campaign is being launched in the Grosvenor Centre on Saturday with the help of Lee Thompson, a celebrity pick pocket.
PC Julia McLeod said the “fun” event will help to launch a serious campaign in the run up to Christmas.
She said: “Around this time every year, we focus our patrols in the town centre and distribute literature to visiting shoppers with tips to help prevent themselves from becoming a victim of theft.
“Past efforts have proved to be successful, but we wanted to try something a bit different this year.
“The performance from Lee provides a bit of fun for all the family, but at the same time gets an important and simple message across.”
Officers say Lee will, in a light-hearted way, highlight the potential ways a thief might target someone and steal their personal belongings without them even noticing. Offers will provide crime prevention advice on Saturday, in Newland Walk, Grosvenor Centre, between 10am and 4pm.
