Stephen Peters will be club captain for Northamptonshire for 2013.
The 33-year-old will be in charge for the County Championship with Alex Wakely, who will Peters’ vice-captain, taking charge for the CB40 and Twenty20.
Peters will succeed Andrew Hall, who ascended to the job after Nicky Boje resigned midway through the 2010 campaign, having recently signed a new two-year deal with the club.
The County are following the example of other clubs in splitting the captaincy with chief executive David Smith saying he “believed the splitting of the roles between Red and White ball cricket was something that had been identified by a number of counties as the best way forward in the modern day game.”
Hall, who stood down from the role and has two years remaining on his contract, will remain on the playing staff and head coach David Ripley said: “Andrew has a very big part as a player to play over the next two years with the bat and ball, his fitness and presence on the pitch is critical to the balance of our team and our ability to be competitive in all forms of the game.”
