Waste and recycling services across South Northamptonshire are set for a major overhaul.
Under the new proposals, almost two thirds of householders will see a change to their bin collection schedule from April 2013. This will be followed by the introduction of a new dry recycling wheeled bin in June and if funding is secured from central government, a food waste collection service.
Councillor Dermot Bambridge, SNC’s portfolio holder for Environmental services said: “The introduction of this improved service demonstrates the council’s commitment to driving out waste from landfill and putting it to better use, without increasing overall costs.
He added: “Once implemented, the changes will provide residents with even greater opportunities to recycle a wider range of materials in a more convenient and reliable way.”
Proposals for householders to buy an additional recycling wheeled bin, and a second garden waste wheeled bin, with an annual charge, have also been given the go-ahead.
The council will write to residents in areas where the collection dates will be affected by change and every household will be provided with comprehensive information on the new scheme.
