Cobblers bosses have hailed the club’s supporters after Home Office statistics released today revealed no banning orders were issued at Sixfields over the last 12 months.

The club currently has seven fans who are subjected to bans and the new stats show that figure has not increased since last November.

Furthermore, just one Northampton Town fan was arrested last season, for an offence at an away game. The fan was arrested for a public order matter.

Club spokesman Gareth Willsher welcomed the statistics.

He said: “We are delighted with the figures. Although our attendances have increased over the last 12 months, to have not had a single banning order shows some of the work the club, the stewards and the police are doing is proving to be successful and is making Sixfields a welcoming venue for families.”

Mr Willsher said part of the development was down to increasing numbers of young and female fans now turning up at Sixfields.

He added: “We do an awful lot of work with groups of youngsters in the town by offering them a match day experience, so a large percentage of our fan base now is young supporters.

“We have noticed an increase in the percentages of female supporters we have and while our supporters are just as passionate, it is terrific that their behaviour is top of the league.”
