Amanda Harris and Sophie Gardner shrugged off illness to make it a medal-winning weekend in Belgium at the Cup of Flanders.
The pair fought off stomach bugs to battle their way to individual honours and nearly made it a double as they narrowly missed the podium in the senior ladies’ synchronized competition, ending in fourth.
Harris rounded off a fantastic 2012 by following up gold at the previous week’s David Ward Hunt Cup with a bronze in individual senior ladies’ in Ghent.
Harris was named Kettering Sports Personality of the Year recently after a season that saw her break in to the Great Britain team for the first time.
Gardner went one better in the under 21 ladies’, taking a brilliant silver medal in the final starting from zero, having been fourth in the preliminaries.
Matt Russell was a whisker away from bronze as he returned from injury to take fourth in the under 21 men’s, with team-mate Glyn Dickinson just missing the top eight cut in ninth.
Kayleigh Haskins ended a fantastic fifth out of a whopping 88 entries in the junior girls.
Haskins showed her team-mates how it’s done, finishing at the head of an NTGA pack that consisted of Kathleen Taylor (20th), Abigail Barford (21st), Gillian Coleman (25th), Tamara Ragiste (36th), Nicola Andrews (47th) and Chloe Grieves (83rd).
Junior boys Brett Coleman, Josh Jones, Ross Tait and Charlie Miller proved that two is better than one as they avenged mid-range finishes in the junior boy’s individual events with top five finishes in the synchronized event.
Coleman and Jones were denied a narrowly bronze medal as they ended just off the podium in fourth, while Miller and Tait weren’t far behind as they settled for fifth.
