A bursar who stole £46,000 from a village primary school, £25,000 from her teenage nephew’s trust fund and then forged her husband’s signature to take out £186,000 of loans has been jailed for three years.
Sara Meakins, 40, forged cheques and signatures to secure more than £250,000 over nine years, the majority of which has never been traced. Having previously pleaded guilty to 12 offences of theft, fraud and obtaining a pecuniary advantages by deception, she was jailed today at Northampton Crown Court, which heard she even stole money intended for Children in Need raised by pupils at Brington Primary School.
Meakins, of Duston Wildes, Duston, admitted stealing £46,355 from the school between June 2007 and March 2011 and fraudulently taking £25,300 from her nephew’s trust fund between September 2009 and November 2010.
She also pleaded guilty to taking out £192,295 of fraudulent loans, forging her husband signature, against their home for nine years.
Recorder Michael Elsom said: “You were thoroughly dishonest and disreputable.
“Schools are places where pupils are entitled to look up to those who have charge over them. What do you think the pupils think of you now, not very much I suspect. I do not think much of you either.”
