Saints wing Jamie Elliott scored his first try of the season and vowed: There’s more to come.
The 20-year-old grabbed a second-half score in the 30-20 LV= Cup win against Newport-Gwent Dragons at Rodney Parade on Sunday.
It was only his third start of the season, having seen a problematic hamstring injury keep him sidelined since February.
And Elliott showed flashes of what he is capable, eventually latching on to a Ryan Lamb chip through to grab a crucial try which helped seal the Saints win.
“It was nice,” said the youngster. “Nice to be back out on the paddock and get a try in the LV= Cup. I’m happy with that and the way we played.
“It’s tough coming down here to Wales, not the friendliest but that’s how it is.”
Elliott’s delight was accentuated by the fact he had been out for so long before returning to action in the east midlands derby three weeks ago.
“I came back from a hamstring injury which just kept recurring,” explained the Bedford-born wide man. “It was eight months before I played at Leicester so I’ve been taking it easy, doing all my core work and the physio has been good.
“The coaches have been understanding not to chuck me back in too early, but I think it’s the right time and it’s paid off.
Elliott has got better week by week since returning to action and he added: “There’s definitely more to come. It’s my third game in. At times I was blowing a bit but I’ll be all right.”
