The man responsible for environmental projects in Northamptonshire has said he does not back the idea of creating an ‘Eco Park’ in Sixfields.
Last week, the Chron revealed plans to create an Eco Park - which is a collection of recycling firms - were being considered in Sixfields.
But this week, Northamptonshire County Council’s cabinet member for the environment, Councillor Ben Smith (Con, Greens Norton) poured cold water on the idea.
He said: “I very much support the concept of an Eco Park, but we need to define the right site. I would say waste gasification sites next to Italian restaurants would not be right.”
Opposition councillor, Richard Church (Lib Dem, Kingsley) argued however that people would welcome the development.
He said: “I think this is something people would want in Sixfields. These are not dirty industries, they’re clean.”
The Conservative leaders of the county council said they would now continue to investigate the idea of opening an Eco Park somewhere in the county.
