Jim Mallinder says Stephen Myler should be fit to return for Saints against London Welsh this weekend.
And he has also received positive news on Ben Foden and James Wilson as Saints’ injury crisis continues to ease.
Foden could play a part as soon as this weekend, but the full-back claims he is targeting next Friday’s game at Sale and looks unlikely to be rushed back for Saturday.
Wilson is now out of the surgical boot needed to protect his calf injury and could return in the next few weeks.
“Stephen Myler will be a little bit quicker than James Wilson, but James Wilson is now out of the boot and he’s moving around,” said Mallinder.
“We’ve got him on the runner so that’s a positive.
“Stephen Myler was a hamstring injury, he’s out running around and training with the team so there’s every chance he’ll be fit and available for this weekend.”
And on Foden, he added: “We don’t know. He’s very, very close. What we can’t do is just put him in.
“Even though he’s been running and running fast, we’ve got to make sure the medics are 100 per cent sure he’s fit.
“He wants to play but if it’s a week too soon then we won’t play him. But he’s very, very close.”
More good news for Saints comes in the form of England duo Dylan Hartley and Courtney Lawes, who were both victims of knee injuries.
Hartley is around a week away from fitness, while Lawes should play a part in Saturday’s game.
