Brian Mujati believes it’s a case of ‘so far, so good’ for Saints this season.
The Bulawayo-born prop helped power his side to a much-needed 23-16 win against London Welsh last Saturday.
It sent Northampton back into the Premiership top four and helped them take advantage of slip-ups by rivals Harlequins, Saracens and Leicester.
Jim Mallinder’s men are also well-placed in the Heineken Cup and LV= Cup after one win and one defeat in both competitions so far.
And Mujati is pleased with how the opening stages of the season have gone at Franklin’s Gardens.
“The season’s going all right,” said the understated front row forward. “Not too much has happened.
“We’re still in Europe, we’re still chasing the Premiership so so far, so good.”
Mujati and Paul Doran-Jones have both had their fair share of the Saints No.3 shirt this season, with Mallinder opting to employ a rotation policy at tighthead.
And Mujati admits he is upping his levels in a bid to get some consistency into his game.
“I’m always trying,” he said. “I’m trying to play at a high standard as much as I can, which is difficult, but I’m working hard at improving.
“I’m getting a bit older now, 28, so I’m getting to a point where I need to perform consistently and I’m working hard at that.”
And on the battle for a starting spot with Doran-Jones, he added: “It’s very good. It’s good for the team, it’s good for the squad.
“He’s a good player, an international and I think he’s played well here.
“The more good players we have at the club, the better it is for us and our chances for the season.”
