FOUR people have complained after fireworks were set off above crowds at this year’s Christmas light’s turn on, “burning” people below.
Hundreds of people packed into the town centre last Thursday night to watch Denise Welch, one of the stars of this year’s panto at the Derngate, switch on the festive lights.
Moments after the switch-on, fireworks attached to nearby shops were let off above the crowds. The sparks from the pyrotechnics showered onto some people below, who had to cover their heads.
One reader contacted the Chron and said: “The gold fireworks were burning people in the crowd. I have a burn on my wrist and had to rush my daughter to shelter. A friend’s daughter had a burn to her head and holes in her’s and her family’s coats from the fireworks.”
A Northampton Borough Council spokesperson said: “We have had four complaints and are investigating.”
