Councils across Northamptonshire are being given almost £10m as a reward for boosting housing growth across the county, the Government announced today.
Housing Minister Mark Prisk said the New Homes Bonus for Northamptonshire was part of a £661 million payout to England’s 353 councils in today for their part in creating 142,000 new homes, almost one in three of which are deemed “affordable”.
Councils across Northamptonshire are set to share a payout of £9.7 million during the 2013-14 financial year after delivering 1,755 new homes including 543 affordable properties and bringing 326 empty homes back into use.
Today’s provisional allocation, to be paid in the 2013-14 financial year, means councils across England will have received £1.3billion through the New Homes Bonus scheme since its launch in April 2011.
Mr Prisk said: “For years, developers found themselves at loggerheads with communities unconvinced that their plans for growth would benefit them. But the New Homes Bonus is turning this around. The £1.3billion paid out to councils to date has meant that now local people are able to see the rewards of new developments in their area – paving the way for thousands of much-needed, locally-supported homes to be delivered across the country.”
According to the report, Northampton Borough Council will receive a fraction under £2 million after it created 321 new homes in 2011-12, including 113 affordable ones.
South Northamptonshire Council received just over £1 million for creating 330 homes and Daventry District Council received £607,000 for creating 167 homes. Cash-strapped Northamptonshire County Council, which today reveals its budget for 2013-14, is also in line to receive £2,072,000.
